CONTRACTORS TO DONATE SARASWAT MEMORIAL GARDEN AT SOUTHERN HILLS

Installation Offers Training for new Rainwater Harvesting System

July 9, 2009 – A coalition of contractors and suppliers is building a memorial garden honoring Manisha Saraswat at Southern Hills Medical Center. The garden design includes a patio with covered seating and a fountain to provide the peaceful sound of running water.

“This new memory garden is another way our Southern Hills family will remember Manisha,” said Thomas Ozburn, chief executive officer of Southern Hills Medical Center. “Our patients and visitors will appreciate the tranquility and beauty of this area as a place to relax and reflect. We are grateful to Randy and his suppliers for their willingness to contribute their talents, time and resources.”

Ozburn announced that annually on March 31, members of the Southern Hills family will gather at the fountain to honor loved ones that have passed. “March 31, Manisha’s birthday, will forever be a day of remembrance at Southern Hills,” he said.

“Green” elements of the plan include permeable pavers and a rainwater harvesting system. Randy Young of Tranquil Waterscape Designs, LLC created the design. Smith Turf and Irrigation is donating the rainwater harvesting system and Simms Stone is providing the permeable pavers.

“I am fortunate to have some wonderful suppliers that immediately stepped up to help us on this project,” said Young. “We wanted to incorporate our new rainwater harvesting system into the design to conserve water and make the garden self-sustaining.”

The installation will be used for training contractors on the proper method of installing this type of system. To register for the class, call Felicia Jacques of Smith Turf and Irrigation at 704-909-3346 or 800-575-4784. The fee is $100.00 per person attending.

Saraswat was the director of the Advanced Wound Care Center at Southern Hills Medical Center until her tragic death on March 2, 2009.
